Candle Lighter Award

This award belongs to those who believe, who always Survive the day and those who never stop Dreaming, for those who cannot quit, for those who keep trying and if you’re in this catergory, you are Entitiled to this Award.

Thank you, LScotthoughts, for another award nomination!!  You were one of the very first blogs I ever started reading and following.  I appreciate your support, kindness, and blog-friendship!

I’m sad to admit that I am not so very good at the whole social piece of blogging.  It’s really difficult for me to find time to post on my own blog, let alone on others.  Please don’t think this is because I don’t enjoy others, because I do, very much so.

Little Bits

I took this picture this past summer at my beach house. There was some sort of insect – I think a Katydid – that was making lunch of some tropical plants there. This picture is of a leaf’s shadow(with the sun shining through the holes from the Katydid) that is being cast on a lower leaf.  I love this one – it reminds me of many things. Especially summer and the beach :)

Little Bits

*****
Little Bits
People come in and out of our lives
They vary in kindness, smartness, shape and size
Think back – I bet you’ve met a million guys
And a million girls all who are helpful in some way
Because they contributed to the person you are today
They take little bits and change you more
And whether or not you like it you’re different from before
But it’s all good and it’s all okay because the person you are today
Knows they mean no harm or to hurt, although it may
When they take little bits as they pass on their way

Song choice – Could You Be Loved by Bob Marley. I hate to do this, but I seriously could not find a copy of the song on Youtube that I was happy with. They were all either remixes, live versions, covers, or terrible-horrible-no good-very bad copies. So I posted the lyrics below ….. I assume most people have heard this song before, but in case you haven’t – get yourself to iTunes and check it out!!!

Could You Be Loved by Bob Marley
Could you be loved… and be loved…
Could you be loved… and be loved…

Don’t let them fool ya,
Or even try to school ya! Oh, no!
We’ve got a mind of our own,
So go to hell if what you’re thinking is not right!
Love would never leave us alone,
Against the darkness there must come out the light.

Could you be loved… and be loved…
Could you be loved…wo yeah… and be loved…

(The road of life is rocky and you may stumble too,
So while you point your fingers someone else is judging you)
Love your brotherman!
(Could you be – could you be – could you be loved?
Could you be – could you be loved?
Could you be – could you be – could you be loved?
Could you be – could you be loved?)

Don’t let them change ya, oh! -
Or even rearrange ya! Oh, no!
We’ve got a life to live. (ooh, ooh, ooh)
They say: only – only -
only the fittest of the fittest shall survive -
Stay alive! Eh!

Could you be loved… and be loved…
Could you be loved… wo now… and be loved…

(You ain’t gonna miss your water, until your well runs dry;
No matter how you treat him, he’ll never be satisfied.)
Say something! (Could you be – could you be – could you be loved?
Could you be – could you be loved?)
Say something! Say something!
(Could you be – could you be – could you be loved?)
Say something! (Could you be – could you be loved?)
Say something! Say something! (Say something!)
Say something! Say something! (Could you be loved?)
Say something! Say something! Reggae, reggae!
Say something! Rasta, rasta!
Say something! Reggae, reggae!
Say something! Rasta, rasta!
Say something! (Could you be loved?)
Say something! Uh!
Say something! Come on!
Say something! (Could you be – could you be – could you be loved?)
Say something! (Could you be – could you be loved?)
Say something! (Could you be – could you be – could you be loved?)
Say something! (Could you be – could you be loved?) /fadeout/

Everyday Angels

Today has been one of my best blogging days! On 12/30/11 I submitted my poem Simple-Rella to Bluebell Books blog post for Short Story Slam week 17, and it was picked as the winner!!  I am so shocked and surprised because I never even realized there were winners for these submissions!!  It couldn’t have come at a better time for me though.  Thank you, so so much :)

And now here is my submission for Bluebell Books Short Story Slam Week 18 ….. based off of this image:

*****
Everyday Angels
So many days for Maddy were dark and lonely
Things went wrong and Maddy thought “if only,
If only things were brighter and better for me
And easier, if only things came naturally”
It was one of those times when Maddy bumped into
Faithful Waters, a lady who was so kind and just knew
Exactly what to say to Maddy that day
Faithful Waters offered kindness and sincerity, then went on her way
But not before handing Maddy a yellow daisy, so tiny and delicate
The color of sunshine, causing Maddy to stop and sit
And think – “how angelic for Faithful Waters to just flit
In and out of my darkest day helping me to realize today
That there are Everyday Angels that pass by our way”
*****

This picture really reminded me of a post I made about a lady I knew named Faith.  She was the first person that made me stop and truly think that there are angels that walk among us.  And we don’t even know it.

Song choice – She Talks To Angels by The Black Crowes. Video thanks to mexiryan.

Autumn’s Calling

I’m really enjoying taking pictures and interpreting them into poems. There’s something about it that really satisfies my creative side. Hope you like it …..

I took this picture this past fall, when I used to write my Tall Tales. I used this picture for this Tall Tale. And then I actually used that story for this poem ….. I hope I’m getting to my point and not just spinning in circles.

Autumn's Calling

*****
Autumn’s Calling
The thought of him with her
Turned Autumn mad, her body sprouting fur
Claws grew and before Autumn knew
She was running to find them under the moonlight
Able to smell them before they caught sight
Of her raging jealousy, hatred and spite
She paused a second, revenge on her mind
Then off she was running again, blind
Blind and tearful under the full moon
And she knew revenge would be her’s soon …..

Song choice – Howl by Florence + The Machine. Love that girl. Video thanks to 123TheDarkAngel13.

Touhill Ironworks

I took this picture last week when I went down to Jersey for the day – I was in serious beach withdrawal. Anyway, there is a historic town right near my parents beach house, called Cold Spring. And this railroad is in Historic Cold Spring …..

Touhill Ironworks

*****
Touhill Ironworks
Montlee Own used Manualabor to fill his bank and get rich
Not caring that blue collars are that from which
Montlee Own’s pockets would swell and his tracks get laid
Even though Manualabor was barely paid
For his had work, blood, sweat and tears
Which became forgotten over the years
It’s really upsetting and sad and
This one’s for you, dad
*****

Song choice – Done All Wrong by the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. For me, the song is about the viewpoint of “Montlee Own” in my poem. Kind of my own little sarcastic jab. Video thanks to ThisistheStart4395.

Pisces

In similar fashion to my last post, I decided to write another poem for a different picture that I took recently (thanks again to a WordPress friend!). It is from the Wildwood Crest beach in New Jersey – my favorite beach :)

Pisces

*****
Pisces
Standing alone at the edge of the sea
And wishing to be just as free
As the waters and waves that came as they pleased
Unlike her heart bound by ropes
So she breathed in strength and breathed out hope
And it followed the undertow
Out to sea
*****

Song choice – Blinding by Florence + The Machine. Phenomenal artist.

Video thanks to AsheeBizzle93

I have also decided to submit this to Poetry Picnic Week 20 at the Gooseberry Garden because this weeks submissions are pieces relating to fairy tales, resolutions, first times, and hope …..  check them out!

The Pioneer

I’ve been playing around with my new camera and having fun shooting and editing all sorts of photos. And of course I’ve been posting a few of them. Below is a picture I posted yesterday, and my dear WordPress friend Guapola suggested that I write a piece based on that picture (for whatever reason, my computer isn’t letting me link up, so here is his URL: http://guapola.wordpress.com/). I love that idea!! So here goes nothing …..

The Pioneer

*****
The Pioneer
From darkness to the light
His journey seemed to take forever
He never thought he’d pull himself together
But he did and he’s walking tall and strong
Because he needed to make some wrong
Decisions and turns before he learned
Mistakes are okay if you set them right
Like leaving the darkness and heading towards light
*****

Song choice – This one was surprisingly difficult for me. I think I so badly wanted to find that perfect song that really meant the same thing as my picture and poem. A lot of the songs I was finding that had a similar meaning really focused a lot on love. Which I really did not want for this poem and picture. So I am really happy with my final selection: Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas.

Here are some other pictures that I took this week:

My boo.

Reminds me of the movie Birds. Interesting, but has a creepy feeling to it.

Simple-Rella

Getting back into the swing of things …..

Bluebell Books is hosting Short Story Slam Week 17!!  This is one of my favorite challenges – writing a poem or story based off our own interpretation of a picture.  And the inspiration for this week is:

*****
Simple-Rella
Tea in hand and bare-footed
Wash rag clothes and much too soot-ed
Simple-Rella sat and sighed
Glass slippers hanging by her side

Beautiful, but much too small
Way too thin, the heel too tall
Completely see-through and easily cracked
Comfort and sensibility is what they lacked
Everyone loved them, ‘cept Simple-Rella
The price she paid for her rich fella
She didn’t care if she looked supreme
And certainly didn’t care to be a queen

Simple-Rella looked down and wiggled her toes
It wasn’t just her feet that were free as she rose
And left the glass slippers behind
“I’d rather be me and barefoot, I find
Than pretending to be one of their kind.”
*****

Song choice – Be Yourself by Audioslave. Obvious choice, great song.  I know for me, at this age I’m much happier doing things that make me happy, rather than doing things that look good or right.

Video thanks to Fronkie10.

And I bid you Happy Friday with one of my latest pics …..

My baby brudder is the model in this one.

December at the Beach

Even though its getting colder and colder, this week always reminds me of the beach.  Every summer since I was 10, I’ve spent every weekend at the beach.  Which is only about an hour and a half from my house.  So once Christmas passes, I always start feeling antsy for summer.  In a perfect world, our calendar would go from December, to May!!

So since I was missing the beach, I took a day trip with my sister and our mutts.  Hope you enjoy some of my pictures.  I know, I know, I haven’t posted any poetry in quite some time.  But I will get back into the swing of things.  A big part of my problem right now is that I have so many ideas going super fast through this ADD brain of mine.  Anyway …..

Cape May - Lewes Ferry Beach

See, this is why I love the beach. Beautiful.

All of these little nest-like things were washed up on shore …..
Sunset Beach – Sunken Ship

Nikon Coolpix

Oh yea! Best Christmas present this year! I looooove mine! It has so many features that are just amazing.  You have the ability to change your photo from standard color, to vivid color, black and white, sepia, or cyanotype.  It also has a 21x zoom and still takes clear pictures.  There is a zoom lever around the button, and another on the barrel of the zoom, which I really love.  I find myself really reading up on photography and trying to learn more about it.  If Santa didn’t bring you everything you wanted, or you have some gift cards lying around from Christmas, treat yourself to a new Nikon Coolpix L120 :)

Here are some of the photos I’ve already taken with my Nikon Coolpix L120, then edited a little through Picasa …..

Yes, she does pose for pictures. She thinks shes a maw-dill.
Told you, she loves it. Thank goodness I have someone to photograph!!
I have no words for this one. Self-explanatory.
My pretty girl. Again.
My brothers-dog-now-parents-baby, Cali.
My sisters dog, Teddy. He also answers to Tedward, Ted, Teddy Bear, etc. etc.
Nope, its not a Wookie. This is my sisters dog, Catie.
And of course, my bubby.
